.conf22 | Splunk User Conference

.conf is Splunk’s most anticipated customer and partner event of the year. The live in-person conference was hosted at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas from June 13-16th and the virtual event on a third-party event platform, Notified, from June 14-15th. Attendees got to experience empowering sessions, compelling keynotes, and guest speakers, plus the opportunity to connect with peers and have tons of .conf fun.

As the lead designer of the digital experience of the conference my responsibilities were to handle all the visual design and UI of online properties related to .conf22. This includes the design of the event marketing and registration site, conf.splunk.com, the in-person app hosted on the Eventbase platform, as well as the virtual experience hosted on the Notified platform, as well as helping out with digital signage, and whatever greater odds and ends the larger team needed help with.

"I'll say this every day this conference: really love the Postman graphics and animations. Love the astronaut! (Postmanaut?) Love the spaceship! Love the space dog! Love the colors!"

State of the API Report 2020

The annual State of the API survey is the largest and most comprehensive survey of the API industry. Every year, Postman surveys industry members to get a picture of the API industry—to understand who is working with APIs, how they are getting their work done, and where they see the industry going. More than 13,500 developers, testers, executives, and others took our 2020 survey and provided insights on everything from how they spend their time to what they see as the biggest issues and opportunities for APIs.

I lead the visual design, identity, UI/UX, illustration, and typography exploration across this entire project. After the survey results were collected they were compiled into a 54-page Google doc. My objective was to take this wall of information and turn it into an easily digestible, responsive, interactive, and visually interesting microsite complimented with downloadable and interactive graphs/charts.

Some outcomes of the report:

120,000 page views and counting! All organic and/or referrals from media outlets / other related websites. No paid ads inflating the numbers.

Shared across 100s of websites and tech blogs. More notably featured at venturebeat.com, nordicapis.com, businesswire.com, techseries.com, zdnet.com, developer-tech.com, startupnewspoint.com, and many more.

The report had quite a long lifespan in terms of references as Venture Beat referenced and shared the report as recently as December 2020 7 months after going live.

This included a 200’ videowall “PiP” display, 5 illustrated vinyl wall wraps (some as large as 14x46’), entrance window wrapping, swag/sticker designs, and all the various printed collateral like badges, menus, directional posters, coupons, etc…

Bits & Bytes Show

ABOUT:

The Bits & Bytes show is a online series of five 10 minute episodes created by Facebook that explores the world of video games, past and present.

The show was part of the initial launch of Facebook Watch, the companies new platform for video on demand, live or recorded.

GOAL/OBJECTIVE:

The objective was to create a logo that would embody the world of video games and streaming culture. Like the show, it needed to invoke nostalgia while also still being modern and eye-catching. The deliverables were a logo, lower thirds, t-shirts, as well as working closely with an animator to produce the show’s intro and cut scenes

Ultimately the end goal of the launch was to boost engagement for Facebook Watch and to create a platform for all creators and publishers to find an audience, build a community of passionate fans, and earn money for their work.

Save Drakes Bay

The Drakes Bay Oyster Farm was at risk of closure. On November 29, 2012, the federal government issued a decision that gave a family-run oyster business in northern California 90 days to shut down their business and vacate the National Park Land that has been home to the farm for generations. For 90 days the Lunny family fought for their community, for justice and for small businesses everywhere. To learn more about this story go to www.drakesbayoyster.com

The design objective was too create an identity for the campaign. As well as creating movie titles for the promotional documentary, posters, t-shirts, and flyers to save Drakes Bay Oyster Farm. The solution was to create two vector oyster shells with a loud and bold message in between to spread knowledge.
